After being rescued from an abusive home, he was confined to a shelter for a decade. Tofu had to undergo the amputation of his back leg due to cancer and eventually went blind due to his advanced age. Many of the shelter staff members assumed that the rest of his life would be spent in the shelter. Fortunately, Danila came into Tofu’s life and offered him a loving home, granting him another shot at a happy life. The adorable dog was on the verge of being a long-term resident at a shelter, but fate had something else in store for him when Danila entered the picture.
After waking up one day, Danila decided to call her friend and coordinator of a shelter, Carol. She asked Carol which of the shelter’s dogs was the oldest and available for adoption. Carol responded quickly by sending Danila a photo of Tofu – a blind 14-year-old dog who had recently undergone surgery to amputate his paw due to cancer. As soon as Danila heard Tofu’s story and saw his picture, she knew that she needed him in her life.
It has always been my aspiration to provide a home for a dog in need of special care. I have a soft spot for elderly, handicapped, and deaf dogs, although I don’t necessarily feel like they all have to be rolled into one furry package. My plan is to take on this project gradually, one dog at a time.
After much deliberation with her spouse, Danila has concluded that they should adopt Tofu as a new member of their furry family. This decision was made despite the fact that they already have five canines under their care.
After coming across a photo and hearing Tofu’s story, the thought of him lingered in my mind all day. It was simply unexplainable! I even brought up the idea of adopting him to my husband, despite already having 5 dogs at home. However, due to Tofu needing multiple surgeries, it took a whole month before he was fully recovered and ready for adoption.
Once I made the decision to adopt Tofu, I patiently waited for a month until he recovered from his recent leg amputation surgery and other health concerns that were being addressed. During this time, preparations were made for his arrival, including providing him with a collar, clothing, a cozy doghouse, and toys to play with. Fortunately, Tofu adjusted quickly to his new home, and soon enough, he was navigating around without any issues or accidentally running into things.
Tofu has settled comfortably in his new abode, effortlessly navigating the house without bumping into any obstacle or wall. Having endured abuse and spent a decade in a shelter, I sense that he is aware of the miraculous shift in his circumstances and is now poised to live a truly contented life.
This furry friend is now living the good life as a cherished household pet, surrounded by a loving and caring family.
Observing him rest in his crib and realizing that he now has a loving family brings me immense contentment and joy.
Occasionally, I gaze at my furry friend and contemplate how anyone could have mistreated him in the past. He’s a remarkably resilient, tender, and affectionate pup. The person who caused him harm really missed out on an exceptional dog. Having Tofu under our roof is truly a blessing from the heavens.
It’s unfortunate that numerous senior and sick pups miss out on such opportunities.
