Being an employee at an animal shelter can bring about unexpected surprises. Although most days are routine, there are instances when unusual cases present themselves. This was the case for Sgt. Bryan McFarlane of the Orange County Virginia Animal Shelter when he received a call about a pit bull with its muzzle wired shut. A concerned family contacted the shelter to report that the dog had sought refuge on their porch.
Upon arriving, MacFarlane recognized that the dog was in dire need of assistance. According to a post on the shelter’s Facebook page, the poor pup had a piece of wire wrapped tightly around its muzzle – and it was put there by a human.
Wyatt’s muzzle was puffy, and the wire had sliced his lower cheeks. Although they offered him a hot dog, he couldn’t chomp it down because his mouth wouldn’t open wide enough. In addition, the poor pup had mange and damaged teeth.
Wyatt was brought to the vet for much-needed assistance. According to the veterinarian, it was one of the most extreme cases of animal cruelty they had ever witnessed.
Despite his past experiences of mistreatment, within a few weeks, the dog’s demeanor dramatically improved. Presently, he has a carefree attitude and enjoys playing with toys while basking in any affection he can receive.
On a Facebook post, the shelter expressed gratitude towards their supporters for being loyal and showing love. Their efforts in fundraising were successful in raising enough funds to cover the dental surgery of the dog. The furry friend is now well on its way to recovery, thanks to all the generous help received.
Exciting update! Wyatt is now available for adoption and the search is on for a loving family who can give him the extra care and attention he deserves for the rest of his days.
